When Is the Best Time of Year For an Eye Exam?
Updated: Mar 10
If you're like me, you probably feel like the older you get, the faster time flies by! The quicker life moves, the more tasks on your to-do list get pushed to the end of the line. For many people, doctor's appointments (like getting a yearly eye exam) fall into this category.
As an optometrist, I see a number of yearly trends around when people get their eyes examined. In particular, there are definitely busier seasons than others at eye care practices all across North Carolina.
The busy seasons
For example, one of the number one things that remind most people to get an eye exam is that their insurance is about to run out and they'll lose their benefits if they don't use them. Therefore, December tends to be a VERY busy time at most doctor's offices.
On the other hand - since insurance turns over on January 1st - January through March can be a very busy as well.
Before you know it, people start to get their tax returns back and appointment slots in April, May and June fill right up.
As summer comes to an end, most parents want to get their kiddos in for an eye exam before heading back to school. Subsequently, July, August, and early September can be demanding times.
So, when is the best time of year to get an eye exam?
As a result, late September, October and November are often THE BEST months of the year to get an eye exam at our office.
Why? Most people have successfully gotten their kids back in school and are enjoying the transition into Fall. Plus, it's still too early for the end of the year rush to kick in (which can get pretty hectic).
If you don't like crowds, and want to get comfortably in and out of our office at a time that works for you, schedule an appointment in mid Fall! You'll check "get an eye exam" off your to-do list and have more time to prepare for the holiday season!
