What is EyeMed?

EyeMed Vision Care is the fastest-growing vision benefits company in the United States. Owned by Luxottica, the insurance company launched in 1988 and is dedicated to helping members achieve better, healthier vision by giving them access to qualified doctors and the most expansive network of providers.

Furthermore, EyeMed can offer you significant savings on eye exams, contact lenses, and glasses. They also offer discounts on vision correction surgery (such as LASIK and PRK).

How do I locate an EyeMed provider?

With over 44,000 providers, EyeMed has the largest eye care provider network in the country.

To find an EyeMed provider, pull up the EyeMed Provider Locator to research providers in your area. There you can specify a location, provider name, network, language, specialty, gender, frame brands, accepting new patients, hours/scheduling, services, and products.

Did we mention, we accept EyeMed!?

What if my provider is not in-network with EyeMed?

You are able to see any provider you would like, however, if the provider is out-of-network you may have to pay in full at the time of service and then submit your claim on your own for reimbursement.

How much does EyeMed cost?

EyeMed is available to individuals in 42 states and can vary in cost, especially if you are signing up as an individual or with a company. Also, there are an array of plans to sign up for which range $5 a month (individual discount plan) to $90 a month (family plan).

You can sign-up online without any enrollment fees and start taking advantage of the benefits on your selected enrollment date. Also, some states allow a 5% savings if the annual payment is made in full.

What does EyeMed cover?

Your eye health and vision are very important to how you live your daily life. Unfortunately, eyeglasses can be expensive! This is especially the case when you factor in certain features like anti-glare, UV protection, photochromic lenses, and premium progressives.

Depending on the EyeMed plan you select, you could have these important add-ons covered in full or at a discount. This helps you get the best bang for your buck without hurting your budget.

In fact, according to EyeMed, their members can save up to 71% on eye care products and services.

Eye exams

Did you know EyeMed has a provider network of over 44,000 providers nationwide? As a result, they can provide you with access to high-quality eye care at a fraction of the cost. In fact, with EyeMed, there is a good chance you’ll only be responsible for only a small copay for your eye exam.

Frames and lenses

As with other vision insurances, you will have copays ranging from $0 - $25 for single vision lenses. Also, you'll have the option to add on important features like anti-glare, UV protection, transition lenses, and premium progressives.

Depending on your plan, EyeMed may offer you an allowance (or a percentage discount) towards glasses. When using in-network providers, EyeMed members receive a 40% discount off a complete pair of second eyeglass purchases and a 20% discount off non-prescription sunglasses and accessories.

Contact lenses

Another feature on most EyeMed plans is coverage for contact lens fittings and materials. With all EyeMed plans you will have a copay for a contact lens fitting and then an allowance for contact lens materials. When using in-network providers, members receive a 15% discount off conventional contact lenses.

Note: As with all other vision insurances, you will have to choose to use your benefits towards glasses OR contact lenses.

On the EyeMed website or mobile app (Apple or Android), you are conveniently able to access all of your benefits.

Are medically necessary contacts for dry eye or keratoconus covered by EyeMed?

If you have advanced dry eye or keratoconus, your optometrist may recommend medically necessary contacts lenses.

Fortunately, some EyeMed plans will cover your medically necessary contact lens fitting and contact lenses in full. If they don’t, you will be responsible for the service and contact lenses out of pocket.

Does EyeMed cover diabetic eye exams?

Yearly comprehensive eye exams are very important for your overall eye health and wellness. This is especially the case if you have diabetes!

Unfortunately, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in individuals 40-65. As a result, early detection through an annual eye exam is very important.

Through your employer, you may be eligible to sign up for a diabetic eye care plan. Unfortunately, this plan is not available on the EyeMed individual marketplace. Furthermore, medical insurance can be used to have a comprehensive diabetic eye exam to detect diabetic retinopathy.

Does EyeMed cover refractive surgery (LASIK or PRK)?

No. However, LASIK is offered at a 15% discount off the retail price or 5% off the promotional price for LASIK or PRK from the U.S. Laser Network. This is simply an additional discount you receive as an EyeMed member.

Conclusion

In the end, taking care of your eye health and wellness should be at the top of your health priority list! With its large provider network, exceptional coverage, and extensive member resources, EyeMed Vision Insurance is one of the best vision insurances on the market!
