5 Questions To Get To Know Dr. Greyson Ramos

Updated: Jan 6

Dr. Apryl Fincher, OD

Did you know that Dr. Greyson Ramos grew up in Tennessee and loves classic cars, coffee, hiking, and his pet quaker parrot, Mochi? With this in mind, below are 5 questions to get to know Dr. Greyson Ramos.

1) Why did you become an optometrist?

I was crawling around my father’s optometry practice long before I knew I wanted to become an optometrist. I’ve been lucky to see optometry inside and outside of the office from a young age, which certainly had an impact. I always noticed how my dad was approached in public from his previous patients, always positive and supportive.

As I went through high school and college I kept thinking to myself ‘What job can I do that I’m good at, but also help other people be better too?’ I landed on optometry during my third year of my bachelor’s degree, and I’m glad I did.

I am proud and thankful that I have the opportunity to serve my community with a job like this. I hope I can build up a patient base which, eventually, will let me help multiple generations of the western North Carolina people!

2) What inspired you to practice in Asheville?

My first time visiting Asheville was a cold, cloudy day in January 2021 during a certain historic pandemic. I wanted to (safely) explore some of the cities near Johnson City, TN, where I was working for the Medical VA at the time.

My first visit to Asheville really captivated me. The diverse food options, the architecture and layout of the city, the beautiful mountains and their assorted hiking/biking trails, and the heart-warming locals really sealed the deal. The stunning scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains never went stale no matter how many times I visited, and I kept finding more and more nooks and crannies that showed me how unique this city is.

I feel very lucky to live in Asheville and I look forward to making a fulfilling life happen here!

3) What is your favorite thing about being an eye doctor?

My favorite thing about being a doctor, hands down, are the people I meet day to day. I never know who is going to sit down in my exam chair.

I’m privileged with this line of work because I get to learn something new every single day, and I do not mean just about eyeballs! The lifelong learning and consistent growth that come with being an Optometrist makes me excited to practice every single day.

My patients always teach me something new, wise or quirky through their experiences and stories they share. For an extrovert like me, I’m not sure I could have found a better job than this one!

4) What do you feel makes Northlake Eye different?

I believe this company takes eye care and patient care to the next level, more so than a lot of other practices. We as doctors are given cutting-edge technology and instruments to elevate the whole healthcare experience, without limiting our personal skill and techniques as doctors. We are able to screen for multiple eye conditions and begin treatments in the blink of an eye due to how efficient the exam flow is (pun intended).

The quick and efficient comprehensive exams we are able to give have a profound effect on office flow and workplace culture. Even at our busiest, we can always address all of the patient's concerns, needs, and wants without feeling rushed or being forced to cut corners.

Truly, Dr. Corte and Dr. Wruble have created a wonderful place to practice optometry, and I think when you come for an eye exam yourself you will agree too!

5) What do you like to do when you're not seeing patients?

I have many hobbies (sometimes hard to keep track of!) that I dabble in.

I love exploring old and new restaurants around Asheville, googling the newest brewery that opened up, or taking a drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to find a new hike. At home, I enjoy booting up a video game after I have made myself some coffee or I’ll jump on my in-door bicycle trainer, or both at the same time.

On my off days, typically I am wrenching in the garage on one of my cars, attending car shows around eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, biking or walking around the River Arts District, or spending time with my newest family member, a quaker parrot named Mochi!
