Did you know that Dr. Ryan Corte is a huge Michigan State fan and runs a health and wellness website? He's also very involved in the local community and is the co-owner of Northlake Eye! With this in mind, below are 5 questions to get to know Dr. Ryan Corte.
1) Why did you become an optometrist?
During my undergrad, I was a pre-med major and aspired to become a dermatologist. After my freshman year, and a bit of time shadowing a few providers, I knew it wasn't the right fit for me. Therefore, I went back to the drawing board and decided to research other healthcare fields.
As luck would have it, my sophomore year I was invited to an MSU pre-optometry club meeting. Always interested in the field, and growing up with poor eyesight, I decided to go.
It was at that meeting I met Dr. Mark Colip from the Illinois College of Optometry. After listening to his motivational and inspirational presentation, I knew I was going to be an optometrist!
2) What inspired you to practice in North Charlotte?
When I was young, my family would always take trips to South Carolina to visit family. During these trips, we'd often venture into North Carolina to explore what this great state has to offer.
When I was in optometry school, I decided to research various areas in the country to practice. North Carolina was at the top of my list!
After attending a few state optometry meetings and getting to know the area better, I was sold on moving here after my residency!
3) What is your favorite thing about being an eye doctor?
I love helping people see and feel their best - it's very gratifying to me. Also, one of the primary jobs of an optometrist is to promote and practice preventative healthcare. This is something I really believe in!
4) What do you feel makes Northlake Eye different?

5) What do you like to do when you're not seeing patients?
I love spending time with my family, friends, and beautiful wife! We're expecting a baby girl this Fall so preparing for her arrival has kept us very busy. I also enjoy working out and exploring new places.
