Did you know Dr. Ryan Corte is a big Michigan State fan and a passionate sports enthusiast? He's also deeply involved in the local community and co-owns Northlake Eye! With that in mind, here are 5 questions to help you get to know Dr. Ryan Corte better.
1) Why did you become an optometrist?
During my undergrad, I initially pursued a pre-med track with hopes of becoming a dermatologist. However, after my freshman year and some time shadowing a few providers, I realized it wasn’t the right path for me. So, I went back to the drawing board and began exploring other healthcare fields.
As luck would have it, during my sophomore year, I was invited to an MSU pre-optometry club meeting. Having always been interested in the field and dealing with poor eyesight myself, I decided to attend.
At that meeting, I had the chance to hear Dr. Mark Colip from the Illinois College of Optometry speak. His motivational and inspiring presentation solidified my decision. I knew from that moment I was going to be an optometrist!
2) What inspired you to practice in North Charlotte?
When I was young, my family would often travel to South Carolina to visit relatives, and we’d frequently cross into North Carolina to explore the beauty and charm of the state.
During optometry school, I began researching potential places to practice, and North Carolina quickly became my top choice.
After attending several state optometry meetings and becoming more familiar with the area, I knew this was where I wanted to be after completing my residency!
3) What is your favorite thing about being an eye doctor?
I find it incredibly rewarding to help people see clearly and feel their best. As an optometrist, one of my key roles is promoting and practicing preventative healthcare, something I am truly passionate about!
